World War II postcards [picture] [ca. 1930-1948].

Disparate grouping of picture and photographic postcards and souvenir snapshots covering a wide variety of subjects pertaining to World War II. Collection consists of souvenir black and white snap-shots, illustrated postcards, black and white photographic postcards, and color-tinted photographic postcards of the World War II era printed in the United States, Europe, and North Africa. This collection depicts military camp life, scenery of Algeria, pre-World War II infantry and cavalry drills, battlefields, and France's liberation from Germany. Amongst the pre-World War II material is a photographic postcard of a parasol monoplane in flight attempting to retrieve a message from a rope. The collection also consists of captioned photographic postcards of Oran and Mascara (Algeria). These postcards depict scenery and natives. Of note is a colorfully illustrated postcard with Arabic script. There are also black and white photographic depictions of the destruction and pillage of Saint-Die, a city in the Lorraine region of eastern France. An illustrated postcard of Koniglicher Platz (Munich, Germany) depicts buildings and swastika flags. Two souvenir sets of black and white snap-shots portray scenes of France's liberation in August of 1944. Revealed is the Arc de Triumph, barricades, prisoners of war, soldiers marching into Paris, armored vehicles, etc. Both sets include an index listing each of the snap-shots' captions.
